If you’ve been thinking of starting on your wellness journey but not sure how to start, this is your sign that the time is NOW, and here are the basic exercises you can do TODAY, in the comfort of your home, with no equipment.
). Squat. This movement does not only work your lower body but is also great for core strength! Engage your core as you’re lowering your body, and push through the heels as you’re standing back up. Think of pushing the floor away from yourself rather than lifting your body up.
). Plank. Plank is a full-body movement if you do it correctly. Engage your core and push yourself slightly forward to engage your lats (feel it below your shoulder blades).
). Lunge. Regular lunges, rear lunges, walking lunges… Start with the one you feel most comfortable with. If you’re struggling with getting deep into the movement, you can start with a half-lunge until you build more strength and mobility.
). Push-ups or incline push-ups. Find a surface high enough to do a push-up comfortably. A table, a wardrobe, or a couch might all work depending on your upper body strength. You might even start with wall push-ups.
). Dead bug. This is my favourite exercise for core strength. Get on your back and engage the core, keeping it engaged throughout the whole movement. As you’re moving opposite limbs, this exercise will take some coordination!
